Pastor Kris Pursel

Rev. Kris Pursel is honored to serve as Pastor of Hope United Methodist Church as of July 2025, where he brings a deep love for people, thoughtful preaching, and a passion for spiritual growth through connection and compassion. Kris believes the church is at its best when it becomes a community where people feel seen, loved, and challenged to grow in Christ.

Kris began his ministry journey as a Certified Lay Minister in 2021 and was licensed as a Local Pastor in 2023. He is currently pursuing his Master of Divinity at Candler School of Theology at Emory University, with an expected graduation in Spring 2027. His formation in ministry has been shaped by preaching, strategic visioning, congregational care, and a heart for meaningful outreach. He also holds an MBA from Lebanon Valley College from 2020, in addition to professional experience in the fields of journalism and software development.

Kris is also the Pastor for Wiest Memorial UMC in Schoeneck, and beyond the church, he works as a Development Officer for Blessings of Hope. Personally, Kris and his family are local to the area, in Brownstown. They enjoy many outdoor activities, Philadelphia Philles baseball, and frequent trips to Delaware beaches any time of the year. Kris also enjoys DIY projects around the house, photography, and most recently, 3D printing!

Kris is deeply grateful for the churches and people who have shaped him along the way—communities that have offered him the grace to become the pastor he is today through the work of the Holy Spirit. He values authentic relationships and believes transformation often happens in ordinary conversations, shared stories, and patient listening.

Kris brings a sense of hope and renewal to his ministry, always looking for where God is already at work and how we might faithfully join in. But as the world changes, so should ministry to it. So he is committed to connectedness and awareness for what lies ahead. His leadership is grounded in trust, humility, and the belief that the church can be a place where all people are welcomed as they are and invited to grow deeper in love with God and neighbor.

Blessings,

Pastor Kris
